2012–2013 NCNM Scholarship Opportunities
Through the generosity of donors, National College of Natural Medicine is pleased to offer several scholarships to honor achievement and assist students with their cost of education. Scholarship selection criteria will be based on a combination of:
-
outstanding academic achievement
-
leadership
-
service to the college and community
-
dedication to the profession of natural medicine
-
commitment to honoring and celebrating diversity
-
and other intentions as designated by each donor
All scholarships that are determined by financial need will be based on Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) needs analysis results. All students receiving financial aid will have all scholarships included as part of their award package. We encourage all students to complete the FAFSA application online at www.fafsa.ed.gov with the National College of Natural Medicine School Code of B07624.
To be considered for any of these scholarships, complete and submit the 2012-2013 NCNM Scholarship Application and any specific questions for the scholarship(s) you are applying for, along with all appropriate documents no later than 10 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2012. Students will be selected and notified by letter. Awarded scholarships will impact fall term 2012 financial aid packages.
Students who already received scholarships for 2011-2012 are ineligible to apply again for the same scholarships this round – but may apply for others.
Students may apply for as many scholarships as three, but only one scholarship per student will be awarded.
NOTE: Federal financial aid recipients could have other aid reduced to accommodate any scholarship(s) received.
All scholarship attendees will be expected to write a thank you letter to the donor with a copy also sent to the Advancement Office; and will be invited to a reception to be held in your honor.
LATE OR INCOMPLETE SUBMISSIONS WILL BE REJECTED.

Sokenbicha Essay Challenge
The deadline has passed. The two winners have been selected and contacted. The official announcement will be made at the AAAOM conference on Saturday, May 14.
The Sokenbicha Essay Challenge is a scholarship contest for students of ACAOM approved Chinese medical schools. The goal of the contest is to showcase the knowledge of Chinese medical practitioners with regard to botanicals and herbal medicine.
Prizes: First prize is a $4,000 scholarship and paid admission into the AAAOM Conference, May 13-15 (includes airfare and hotel). The first place winner will be recognized at the AAAOM banquet on Saturday, May 14, and be allowed to read his or her essay. Second prize is a $1,000 scholarship. All winning essays will be printed and distributed to AAAOM conference attendees and will also be published on the Sokenbicha Web site.
Format: The essay should be 800 words max in one Microsoft Word document (the 800 words do not include the title, bibliography or footnotes) and include a title page in a separate Microsoft Word document. Entries must be typed, double spaced, in two Microsoft Word documents, attached to an email.
Who is eligible? Students currently enrolled in a CCAOM approved Chinese medicine school are eligible to enter.
The essay topic: How can acupuncturists successfully bring the practice of herbal medicine and the use of botanicals into the growing field of integrative medicine?
Judges: Judging will be completed by a panel of qualified judges. Seven members of the AAAOM SO Board will evenly divide essays and rank the top three based on the following criteria:
