Friedhelm Kirchfeld Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship honors the memory of Friedhelm Kirchfeld, NCNM’s first professional librarian, credited with bringing many rare books to the College and building the library’s collection with skill and resourcefulness during his long tenure. Friedhelm was an avid student of the history of naturopathic medicine, and this scholarship, made possible by the generosity of Eric Blake ’04, ND, MSOM, is intended to encourage students to make use of the library’s Rare Book Room and to pursue study of the historical roots of naturopathic medicine.
This non–need based merit scholarship will be awarded to current students entering their second year or higher in the ND or Dual–Track Programs.
All current full–time students entering their second year or higher in good academic standing may apply. Finalists will be selected based on a record of outstanding academic achievement, leadership, service to the college and community, dedication to the profession of natural medicine, and a commitment to honoring and celebrating diversity.
This scholarship will be awarded to one student in the amount of $1,000 for 2014-2015 academic year.
Graduating students and students not already enrolled at NCNM are ineligible to apply for this scholarship.

In the concise 30 page handbook from 1924, The Principles and Practice of Naturopathy, by EW Cordingley, a prolific contributor to the naturopathic professional literature, he provided the first "comprehensive survey of practically the entire field of our science from a distinctly naturopathic viewpoint as regards its own pathology and therapeutics."
