Dr. Ryan earned her BS in biology from the University of New Hampshire in 2001 (summa cum laude), her ND from NCNM in 2012 (honors in research), and her MS with a focus in integrative medicine research in 2013 from NCNM. She was the recipient of several scholarships at NCNM including the Marjorie A. Gage Research Scholarship and the Carlson Labs scholarship. Dr. Ryan conducted a study to examine the effect of a probiotic supplement on cardiovascular biomarkers and immunologic markers in hypercholesterolemic adults for her MS thesis project. She recently presented this research at the AANP national convention.

Before studying natural medicine, Dr. Ryan worked in quality control at Beckman Coulter Genomics, a high-throughput DNA sequencing facility. She also conducted several years of NIH-funded research at Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute. She has co-authored publications in Molecular Biology of the Cell, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Chemical Biology & Drug Design, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
