New Chinese Medicine databases
We have a subscription to Classical Chinese Medicine, a database committed to honoring and restoring the classical origins of Chinese medicine. Developed by Dr. Heiner Fruehauf, and other like-minded scholars, you will find here an extensive collection of audio and video-taped lectures as well as previously unpublished material on Classical Chinese Medicine. Access to the database requires a user ID and password, available in the library. The URL is http://associates.classicalchinesemedicine.org/.
We also added a subscription to China Online Journals Medical Collection, which includes full-text access to 78 TCM journals that are published in Chinese. Access to the database is by IP recognition on campus, and requires a library barcode off campus. The link is available on our library databases page: http://www.ncnm.edu/library/databases2.php.
New Artist Exhibition
We have a new art display in the library. First year ND student Melissa Wenzel has hung 8 oil paintings in the front room gallery. Before coming to NCNM, Melissa earned a degree in Fine Arts from UC Berkeley. She then pursued her creative interests in Oakland, CA where she lived and worked for several years. She primarily works with oils and canvas, but also likes to incorporate a variety of media including paper, collage, acrylics, charcoal and gouache.

Easier Off-Campus Database Access is Here!
Most of our databases that allow off-campus use can now be accessed with your name and library barcode. Find the database you want on the Databases webpage, then simply click on the "Off-Campus Users" link, and you will be taken to a page asking for your last name and barcode number. Some databases and journals still require a username and password, which can be obtained by visiting or calling the front desk. Questions? Call us at 503-552-1542.
Western States Chiropractic College shares library catalog
The Western States Chiropractic College library now shares the same online catalog with OHSU that NCNM does. That means it is possible to search their holdings at the same time that you search our holdings, or you can search each school's records separately. It is also possible to generate a request for Western States materials from within the catalog. To use the shared catalog, go to this URL: http://catalogs.ohsu.edu/.
New iCaduceus database
The library has a new subscription to iCaduceus. It is a diagnostic and treatment support system for holistic clinicians, offering non- pharmacological treatment information in four modalities for 400 conditions. Create your own account from a campus computer, then login from anywhere (similar to MDConsult). Here is the link: http://www.icaduceus.com/index.jsp.
Unlimited user license for MDConsult
We upgraded our subscription to MDConsult from 2 simultaneous user licenses to unlimited access. Now you should never get a "busy signal" because the licenses are in use.
Improved Full-Text Access From PubMed
Getting to full-text articles from your PubMed search is now much easier! PubMed's new LinkOut feature makes it easy to identify NCNM-subscribed articles from your list of search results. With one click, you can access an electronic article or verify that the library has the journal in print. This feature works both on and off campus. Read our short tutorial and start using this enhancement today.
Reciprocal Agreement with Birthingway
The library recently made a reciprocal borrowing agreement with Birthingway College of Midwifery. The agreement says that NCNM students can check out up to 3 books from their library, and vice versa. If you want to use their library, be sure to take your student ID with you. Birthingway College of Midwifery is located at 12113 SE Foster Road. Currently, the NCNM library has reciprocal agreements with OHSU, OCOM, WSCC, Linfield College Portland Campus, and Birthingway.
FirstConsult subscription added to MDConsult
The library has added a subscription to FirstConsult, a companion database to MDConsult. Whereas MDConsult provides full-text access to journals, books, patient handouts, and the like, FirstConsult provides full-text access to medical treatments and tests that should be considered for particular medical conditions, differential diagnosis files, and other information designed to help primary care providers make clinical decisions at the point of care. The two databases work in tandem: you can search both MDConsult and FirstConsult at the same time. To access FirstConsult, simply log on to your MDConsult account and click on the FirstConsult button. Or you can begin searching and the FirstConsult results will display like the book, journal, and other results subcategories.
Rare books digitization project grant
The library won a federal grant to digitize a sample of its rare books collection for public access on the Web. We collaborated with the OHSU library on this project, and they are hosting our Web site: http://content.ohsu.edu/nmhc/.
International Journal of Naturopathic Medicine
There is a new peer reviewed journal of the profession that is available for free on the Web at http://www.intjnm.org. The inaugural online issue is for September 2004. In order to access the journal, you must first register (it's free and easy) and create your own user name and password. Check this new professional resource out.
