MSM and Oxidative Stress

Can MSM Mitigate Exercise-Induced Oxidative Stress?

NCNM is seeking registered participants of the Portland Half-Marathon between the ages of 21 and 45 to participate in a study evaluating the effects of MSM on post-exercise oxidative stress levels.

Participants will take MSM or placebo for three weeks before the Portland Half-Marathon on October 5, 2014. The study includes five blood draws – three at the Helfgott Research Institute in SW Portland and two on race day near the finish line.

Study participants cannot:

  • Use tobacco

  • Be diabetic

  • Be pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Have run more than three half-marathons in the past three years

  • Have ever run a full marathon

  • Be taking steroidal anti-inflammatories

Upon completion of the study participants will receive a $150 check, and a $25 gift card.
