Student Research Opportunities at the Helfgott Research Institute
Thank you for your interest in the student research program at NCNM. With the start of the new Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Research (MSiMR) degree, changes have been made in the student research program. There are now two levels of involvement in research to choose from, in addition to the MSiMR degree.
Research assistants gather background information through literature reviews and create information databases. We ask that research assistants set aside a weekly three–hour block of time to be available to help with research projects or do literature searches at Helfgott. Students who create a viable database of background research in a provided subject area, submit a written document (article for journal/ magazine, web or blog text) and participate for at least two years are eligible for the Honors in Research designation at graduation.
Research apprentices support investigator and MSiMR projects by gathering background information, creating documents and helping to implement studies. The Intro to Research and Ethics course (RES 518) is required for this level of research. These credits count towards ND elective credit. Students who make a significant contribution to a project, prepare a written protocol, IRB or grant submission and participate for at least two years are eligible for the Honors in Research designation at graduation.
Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Degree (MSiMR)
The MSiMR is an in–depth, structured program in integrative medicine research. Please see the admissions department for complete program information. MSiMR students who design and Implement individual research study, submit a written thesis and participate for at least two years are eligible for the Honors in Research designation at graduation. These students must also take RES 518, which counts toward both ND elective and MSiMR program credit.
