Barbara U. Hammer, PhD Adjunct Investigator
Dr. Barbara U. Hammer earned her BA Degree at Grinnell College, her MA degree at Purdue University, and her Ph.D. at the University of Maryland, with majors in Clinical and Experimental Psychology. She has special expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and is certified in EMDR Trauma therapy. In addition, she has had extensive post-doctoral training in EEG biofeedback and is currently practicing both Clinical Psychology and Neurotherapy in the Portland, Oregon, California and the Washington, DC area. She is a licensed psychologist in Oregon, California and Washington DC.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Hammer has been a Director of Research at and Consultant to parent consultation centers, designed and conducted Behavior Modification programs in early NASA research, and has been an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University and other academic institutions in the Washington, DC area. She has held a number of professional leadership positions, including President of the DC. Psychological Association, Chair of Professional Standards Review Committees in DC and Maryland, and Chair of the Appeal Board, National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
Currently Dr. Hammer volunteers in several nonprofit organizations, including Disaster Mental Health Services of the American Red Cross and the Returning Veterans Resource Project NW in Portland Oregon, where she offers free mental health services to veterans and their families. She also volunteers with Homecoming for Veterans, providing neurotherapy to veterans for the rehabilitation of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and issues of brain performance resulting from traumatic brain injury, blast injury, concussion, whiplash, and chemical exposure.
