Moxibustion for Fatigue and Malaise

Moxibustion is a common treatment modality in Japanese style acupuncture. It involves burning the herb Artemisia vulgaris to warm the skin at acupuncture points. Clinical experience suggests that moxibustion is particularly beneficial for patients with complaints of fatigue and malaise. The reported effects of moxibustion are thought to be associated with regulation of the autonomic nervous system.

The purpose of this pilot study is to gain preliminary information on the effectiveness of moxibustion for fatigue and malaise. The study will explore whether blood pressure, heart rate variability (HRV), skin conductance and certain symptom questionnaires will be suitable outcome measures for a future large scale trial.
