Follow the steps below to compete for a scholarship:
1 – “Pick a Grain” and deliver a three-minute speech about this grain and post it on YouTube by March 16, 2010.

2 – Each college will choose one contestant from their school to move to the next round. Each college must select their winner and announce it to the NMSA by March 23, 2010.

3 – A group of judges will view all seven speeches and narrow it down to three finalists.

4 – The three finalists will be provided with free airfare and entrance to the NWNPC in Portland, Oregon on May 7-9.
The three Finalist Speeches will take place on Saturday, May 8 at 12:00 Noon at the NWNPC Conference in Portland at the Waterfront Marriott.
The winners will be announced on Sunday, May 9 at 11:00am in the Convention Lecture Hall.

A detoxification program is an excellent way for your patients to begin their journey towards better health. Starting patients on a cleansing protocol can reduce health problems associated with toxic overload and allows you, the practitioner, to truly asses your patients’ health needs. A cleansing program can also be of benefit to patients experiencing chronic inflammatory conditions such as joint pain, as an increased level of inflammatory activity can occur with circulating toxins. A cleanse can also be a great way to jump start a weight-loss program and can be utilized as a way to educate your patients on clean eating and how to restore healthy energy and vitality.

Nutritional support for detoxification processes requires providing the body with all of the necessary vitamins and minerals for the enzymatic and metabolic activity involved. Insufficient intake of any of the essential nutrients can greatly impair the body’s ability to successfully neutralize toxins. Intake of antioxidants is also crucial, as the first phase of detoxification has the potential to create numerous free radical by-products. For many Americans, the phrase “detox diet” conjures up images of lengthy fasts and bizarre “super-power” concoctions designed to rid the body of dangerous toxins. Many people also associate detoxing with a form of starvation diet which leads individuals to lose large, sometimes unhealthy, amounts of weight in a short period of time. As natural health practitioners, it is important that we educate our patients on how to complete a successful detoxification program - one that assists the body in the elimination of toxins and nutritionally supports healthy tissue regeneration.

A product that provides high quality nutrients necessary for effective Phase 2 conjugation is also important. Without these Phase 2 processes, circulating active toxins can not be safely removed from the body. Effective Phase 2 activity relies on glutathione, sulfation, glucoronidation, methylation, and amino acid conjugation. Therefore, nutrients such as sulfur containing amino acids, glycine, glutamine, methylcobalamin, pantothenate, and vitamin C are all crucial to supporting Phase 2 activity. Other supportive nutrients include calcium D-glucorate. This nutrient inhibits beta glucoronidase, an enzyme produced by pathogenic gut bacteria that has the ability to reverse detoxification processes. In addition, botanicals such as Silymarin (derived from milk thistle) have also been shown to offer liver-cleansing support.
