Maki Aoki, ND

Adjunct Faculty

Bio

Dr. Maki Aoki finished three years of naturopathic family practice residency at NCNM's Natural Health Center (NHC) and joined as adjunct clinical faculty in 2008. She is experienced in treating diverse patient populations, as many of her clinical rotations have focused on treating patients at NCNM's community clinics. “It is a priority for me to consider where patients are coming from and to meet them where they are comfortable. Only when we ask our patients how we can help them, can we understand what they really need and assist them appropriately.” Dr. Aoki’s specialized interests in medicine are:

● Public health/acute care

● Addictions recovery

● Adolescent medicine

● Hormonal imbalances

Dr. Aoki uses botanical medicine, homeopathy, and physical medicine as treatment methods.  Additionally, she focuses on diet and nutritional counseling with her patients. Her appreciation for herbal medicine’s sustainability and accessibility, as well as her previous background in this therapy, is what brought her to naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Aoki graduated with a doctorate in naturopathic medicine from NCNM in 2005. She sees patients privately at NHC and is an attending physician on NCNM teaching shifts at InAct and Outside In community clinics. In addition to her responsibilities as a physician, Dr. Aoki is a performer with Portland Taiko, a Japanese American drumming group. Her interests also include biking and surfing.
