Rick Kirschner, NDThe Healthy Communication Workshop: How to hack the mind-body connection

Rick Kirschner, ND

September 13–14, 2014
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.,
Academic Building, Room 310

Directions to NCNM

The purpose of healthy communication is to bring about positive change. Healthy communication enhances lives, moves people forward towards their desired outcomes, and empowers the people who learn it to bring about change for the better, first in themselves and then in others. In clinical practice, in community relations, and in dealing with people generally and with the world at large, the need for progress and lasting change is simply too great to leave to chance. If you want something to change, something better to happen, our competence in communication makes all the difference in the world.

Attendees will explore ten skillsets that effective communicators/change artists/successful doctors develop in themselves, each represented with a keyword.

  1. WORD: Making and keeping commitments to yourself and others

  2. STORY: Using stories to learn about, affirm and empower yourself and others

  3. RESONATE: Connecting to and building successful relationships with others

  4. UNDERSTAND: Finding the map of reality that hides beneath the surface

  5. INFLUENCE: Sharing and getting interest and engagement for your ideas

  6. HABIT: Creating automatic patterns that help yourself and others

  7. PURPOSE: Knowing your values and vision for a personally meaningful life

  8. SUPPORT: Giving and being able to receive help when it’s needed

  9. TEAMSHIP: Working and playing wisely and well with others

  10. INTEGRITY: Matching habits to values and words to deeds
