Call for NCNM Board Nominations
October 22, 2008
This is an exciting time for all of us at National College of Natural Medicine as we expand our leadership role in training physicians and practitioners to meet the nation’s increasingly urgent health care needs. NCNM’s board of directors will soon select new members to help us meet these goals and the board needs your help to identify prospects. Do you know someone actively involved in health care, higher education, insurance or finance who shares our values and who would act as advocates for NCNM and natural medicine in the community?
Who is eligible? We’re looking for individuals who will complement the skills of current board members and who have the passion and resources to advance the college’s mission. Current students, staff and faculty members are not eligible to sit on the board as voting members, but may contribute as constituency representatives. Any students, faculty or staff interested in serving in this role should contact the SGA, Faculty Senate or Staff Council.
What does a board member do? Board members are involved in all aspects of the governance of NCNM. Board members also participate in development of the organization by overseeing the institution’s finances and setting the college’s strategic direction.
How long do board members serve? Elected board members sit for a three-year term.
How do board members contribute to NCNM? Although board members fulfill a variety of roles, their primary functions are to:
1. Attend board meetings (either by conference call or in person).
2. Prepare for meetings by attending committee meetings and reviewing reports submitted to the board of directors.
3. Actively participate in designated committees.
4. Support, represent and promote NCNM in the community.
How do I submit a nomination? Prospective candidates should contact Melissa Scholl, executive assistant to the president, at mscholl@ncnm.edu or (503) 552-1702. Melissa will answer any questions about board membership and assist with the application process.
Remember that NCNM’s board meetings are always open to our community. If you’re interested in attending, NCNM’s next open board meeting is Friday, October 31 at 12:30 p.m. It will be held in the Multnomah Falls Room at University Place, 310 SW Lincoln in Portland.
