About NCNM
NCNM offers two graduate professional degrees in accredited and recognized programs that prepare you for licensed practice in many states and provinces: Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, a four-year program of clinical sciences and holistic methods of healing and disease prevention, instilled with the ancient principle of the healing power of nature. Master of Science in Oriental Medicine, a four-year program that delves deeply into thousands of years of classical Chinese methods of diagnostics and healing, using herbs, acupuncture, bodywork and therapeutic exercise.
Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest city of Portland, Oregon, NCNM provides and fosters a challenging, eclectic, and rigorous academic experience. You will be immersed in new ways of thinking about not only medicine and health care, but human beings and the world. You will be on the forefront of natural medicine, both eastern and western, and of integrated medical education, research, and patient care.
Organization
NCNM is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Oregon corporation. The college is governed by a board of directors serving three-year terms. The Board of Directors oversees the organization and exercises management through the president. The day-to-day operations of NCNM are performed by the president, staff, faculty, and administration.Students getting involved is the mission of the National College of Natural Medicine Student Association. The Student Association unifies the student body, provides a formal student voice to other constituencies within NCNM, and develops opportunities for social and academic growth. Its committees include Intra-Campus Communications, Social and Professional Development, Sports, Budget, Fundraising, Elections, and Constitution. Students who serve on the Administrative Liaison Team are assigned to a specific college department.

For the past twenty years, Ms. Garbett has worked with a wide range of corporations, organizations, and individuals in planning, designing, and implementing effective change processes, which consistently result in higher levels of personal productivity and organizational profitability. She currently heads a company using tools and processes based on quantum theory to create more rapid and ecological alignment. Ms. Garbett received her undergraduate degree in history from Lake Forest College in Illinois. In 1984, she received a Master's degree from Brigham Young University. She completed a program in clinical pastoral education in 1986, and in 1994 she was certified as a master practitioner in neurolinguistic programming. She continues involvement in a multiyear program in the field of energy management.
Nancy Garbett, MEd, Chair of the Board
Dr. High recently joined the Oregon Primary Care Association (OPCA) as the clinical program manager. He has managed a primary care clinic at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, was Director of Clinical Services at InAct, and was clinic director for the teaching clinics of National College of Natural Medicine for three years. He served on the Coalition of Community Clinics in Multnomah County, and is a past board member of both OPCA and the Essential Health Clinic Foundation. Dr. High served in the U.S. Air Force for over ten years and is a reservist in a construction and repair engineering squadron. He holds a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from NCNM and a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University.

Ms. Goldsmith graduated from NCNM in 1999 with a Master of Science degree in oriental medicine, and is in private practice in Portland, Oregon. She is an adjunct faculty member in the Classical Chinese Medicine department at NCNM. Ms. Goldsmith served from 2001- 2004 as a committee member for the Acupuncture Advisory Committee to the Board of Medical Examiners for the State of Oregon.

David Schleich, PhD, has been in the higher education and health fields for over thirty years. Formerly President of CCNM for seven years, he was also Vice-President Academic of Niagara College and President of Truestar Health. He was a professor for many years and is a respected leader in the natural health field in Canada and the United States.

Dr. Baumann graduated from National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in 1985 and opened a private practice in natural childbirth and family medicine. Over the years, the focus of her practice shifted to transpersonal counseling and process work in which she explored the relationship between physical symptoms, emotions, ingrained patterns, core beliefs, and the soul, or higher self. In 1994, she began to teach internationally on energy medicine and the use of therapeutic gemstones with acupuncture and detoxification. She has been an active member of the NCNM Board of Directors since 2002. Dr. Baumann was NCNM's interim president during the presidential transition period, and later served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. She is CEO of OneMedicineInstitute, an educational organization dedicated to integral medicine.

Dr. Campbell is a president emeritus of Oklahoma State University and a former dean of the college of agriculture atthe University of Illinois. He is also a leading expert on land-grant universities. Dr. Campbell has written several books on higher education and teaching. He divides his time between his office in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and his home in Columbia, Missouri.

Dr. Greenleaf has more than thirty-five years of experience in higher education management and human resources. She retired from the State University System of Florida in 1996 as Associate Vice President for Human Resources at Florida International University. She manages federal research projects at Barry University for the Adrian Dominican School of Education. In January 2005, she was appointed by the governor of Florida as the vice president of human resources at Florida A & M University in Tallahassee. She also consults with private and public organizations, offering professional growth opportunities for businesses and organizational members to accomplish their goals.

Mr. Manes is the founder and owner of Square One Consulting, an organization specializing in change management and change architecture in the insurance/ financial services and health care industries. He has over 30 years of experience in risk management and insurance, including ten years as an instructor of risk and insurance at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Mr. Manes was Executive Director of the Louisiana Healthcare Association. He has also served on numerous health care and insurance commissions and committees in Louisiana for the governor, the commissioner of insurance, the attorney general, the House of Representatives, and LSU. He is the author of two books-Gumbo: Cooking Up the Organization of the Future and Organizational Planning Quick and Simple.
Michael G. Manes
Dr. Steve Marsden earned his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and Master of Science in oriental medicine from NCNM in 1999. He holds board certifications in acupuncture and Chinese herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and is an invited member of the American Herbalist Guild, and is a licensed veterinarian. He spends much of his time instructing other veterinarians worldwide on integrating complementary and alternative therapies into their conventional medical practices, and is co-author of the definitive textbook on the subject, Manual of Natural Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Marsden founded and currently practices veterinary and naturopathic medicine in one of the only facilities in the world licensed to treat both humans and animals, located in Edmonton, Canada. He is the developer of Cured Cases Inc., a central database of all veterinary patients in the world successfully treated with alternative medicine. Dr. Marsden founded the Natural Path Herb Company, selling Chinese and western herbal formulations to veterinarians throughout North America. He serves on the advisory board of the Holistic Health Program at Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton, and plays a key role in licensure efforts for naturopathic physicians in Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Zava, a biochemist and research scientist, is an internationally known speaker and leading expert in the field of hormone health. After graduating with a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Tennessee in 1974, Dr. Zava pursued his interests in cancer research. Working in the US and Switzerland, he focused on hormonal control of breast cancer. Over the past 25 years, he has published extensively on basic and clinical research relating to the effects of estrogens (natural and plant estrogens and pollutant xenoestrogens) and progesterone on breast cancer. Dr. Zava developed saliva testing as a simple non-invasive means to test hormones and hormonal risk factors for breast cancer and established ZRT Laboratory (CLIA certified) in 1998. His goal is to continue to develop research projects with physicians and academic groups to understand the role of steroid hormones in health and disease, particularly breast cancer. ZRT Laboratory is currently involved in several research projects.

Constituency Representatives to the Board (Non-Voting Members)
Mr. Cleaver is the co-founder of the Master of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM) program at NCNM, and has been a full-time instructor in the program since its inception. He has served as the primary advisor to students in the MSOM and dual degree program and has been an active member of the academic progress committee. He was a pioneer in the field of Chinese medical education in this country, opening his practice as an acupuncturist in the late 1970's, He has taught and helped to create curricula at several schools, including Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, and the Oregon School of Massage in Portland. He is active on various college committees including the curriculum and library committees, as well as the Faculty Senate. At present, he is the NCNM representative to the national Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM), and liaison to the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), which oversees national exams.

Jaie Bosse is the Student Representative to the NCNM Board of Directors. After receiving a BFA in theatrical lighting design from New York University, Jaie worked as a project manager for an architectural lighting consultant, overseeing such projects as the Times Square Planet Hollywood and Noche restaurants and the award-winning Morimoto in Philadelphia. Jaie is an active member of Queers and Allies, the Environmental Action Committee and Student Government, a staff writer for The Phoenix, a coordinator for the Student Mentor Program, and an investigator at the Helfgott Research Institute. After graduating with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine in 2010, Jaie plans to provide health care to the queer community.
